General Information

How do I join?

Turn up at one of our fencing sessions, you will be asked to pay fees if you start showing up regularly. If you’re a beginner, it is recommended that you take the beginners course.

What about gear?

We have sets of gear essential to fencing such as jackets, masks, visual foils, electric foils, lames and scoring equipment. This gear is available to beginners first at and the rest of the club second at no charge.

Who fences at AUF?

Men and women of all ages ranging from students to middle aged workers. The skill level ranges from beginners to accomplished fencers. This club is suitable for anyone interested in the sport of fencing.

When does AUF fence?

Monday and Wednesday nights at 7 – 9ish pm. This is usually followed by drinks at a local pub with some club members.

Where does AUF fence?

Auckland University Recreation Centre, 17 Symonds St, Auckland Central.

Gym Courts on Mondays (through the reception gates), and Upstairs Dance Studio (up the stairs next to reception).

We have an arrangement with the recreation centre that club members can enter for free during club sessions.

What’s a typical club session like?

  • Warm up game 1900 – 1915
  • Stretches 1915 – 1920
  • Line-work 1920 – 1940
  • Free-play 1940– 2100

How much does it cost?

Students $60 for each semester

Everyone else $100 per semester

There is a discount on the fee for people who have taken the beginners course in the same year.
